Why this exists

Checking your own IP address should take one second and one glance. Too often it means a page buried under interstitials, a countdown before the result appears, and three buttons that lead to a checkout rather than an answer.

WhatMyIPAddressIs.com is the version we wanted: the answer at the top of the page, the explanation underneath it for anyone who wants it, and nothing between the two.

How it works

There is no application server behind these tools. Every page is static, and every lookup runs in your own browser against public APIs. That is not a marketing claim about privacy — it is an architectural fact, and it is the reason we have no database of visitor addresses to lose, sell or hand over.

• IP and geolocation come from public geolocation APIs, queried directly by your browser.
• Speed measurements run against a global anycast edge network, so you are timed against a nearby node rather than one distant server.
• DNS queries go to a public encrypted resolver over HTTPS.
• The subnet calculator and browser check make no network requests whatsoever. All of that arithmetic happens on your device.

How it is funded

Advertising, and only advertising. The tools are free and always will be. We keep ad slots in fixed, predictable positions — never over the result you came for, never as a pop-up, never as an interstitial you have to dismiss before the page works.

We do not sell visitor data, because we do not collect any. What our advertising and hosting partners can see is set out plainly in the privacy policy.

Accuracy, honestly stated

IP geolocation is an estimate, and we say so on every page that shows one. Country is close to reliable. City is a good guess that is frequently wrong, particularly on mobile and satellite connections. Coordinates often point at the middle of a city rather than at anything in particular.

We would rather tell you that up front than let you assume a level of precision the underlying data does not support.
