Every request your device makes to the internet carries a return address, the same way a letter does. Without it, no server would know where to send the answer. When your browser asked for this page, our lookup read that return address and displayed it above.
You almost certainly did not choose it. Your internet provider allocated it from a block of addresses assigned to them by a regional registry, and your router passes it along to every device in your home. Which is why every phone, laptop and TV on your Wi-Fi shows the same public IP address here.

Geolocation accuracy varies a lot. In dense cities it can land within a few kilometres; on mobile networks or satellite links it can be off by hundreds. If the map above points at the wrong town, that is normal and not something you need to fix.
Common reasons people check their IP
- Confirming a VPN is actually on. Load this page before and after connecting. If the address and country do not change, your tunnel is not carrying traffic.
- Setting up remote access. Port forwarding, game servers and security cameras all need the public address your router presents.
- Allow-listing for work. Plenty of company dashboards and databases only accept connections from known addresses.
- Diagnosing a block. If a site says your address is restricted, this is the address it means.

What is my IP address?
It is the public identifier your internet provider assigns to your connection, and every site you visit can see it. The address at the top of this page was read directly from your live connection.
Why does my IP address keep changing?
Most home providers hand out dynamic addresses from a shared pool. Restart your router, or simply wait for the lease to expire, and you may be issued a different one. Static addresses stay fixed but usually cost extra and are normally sold to businesses.
Can someone find my home address from my IP?
No. Public geolocation databases resolve to a city or region, and they often point at an ISP facility rather than a customer. Only your provider holds the link between an address and a subscriber, and they normally release it only under legal process.
Why do I see an IPv6 address instead of IPv4?
Because your network prefers IPv6 and your browser used it for this request. Both are valid public addresses. The details panel above shows each one separately when your connection supports both.
Does this site log or sell my IP address?
